SUCCESSFUL
MANAGERS...
Give people more responsibility:
Do you train and develop staff by challenging them with increased responsibilities.
Do you need to coach and guide them in areas they are weak in?
Delegate interesting and challenging parts of your own work:
Do you get your people involved in budget-setting and control measures, chairing
production meetings and attending seminars?
Remove controls:
Have you tried removing controls, increasing the amount of responsibility you
give your staff and making them accountable for their own work?
Assign tasks:
Do you encourage people to specialise? Do you assign special tasks to individuals
so they can become experts in them and gain status because of their efforts?
Improve working conditions:
Do you look at working conditions through the eyes of your staff? Often minor
changes which will cost little, can make a big difference to their comfort
and safety. Pleasant surroundings in the staff cafeteria and clean well
equipped washrooms show you are concerned about their well-being. Even
minor changes can improve their morale. Have you asked staff "What
would you like to see done to improve your working conditions?"
